Parents of Alba-Golden students can expect to see a survey in the next week requesting their input on transitioning Alba-Golden schools from a five-day school week to a four-day school week.

Yantis voters handily approve attendance credits

Yantis school district voters easily approved the attendance credit election last Tuesday, Oct. 4.

By a 68-5 vote, the district will basically be able to continue business as usual as a Robin Hood school district. more

QISD names superintendent finalist

The Quitman School Board named assistant superintendent Chris Mason as the lone finalist to become the new superintendent Monday.

Mason will replace Rhonda Turner, who announced in August that she is retiring Dec. 31 after serving as QISD superintendent for 15 years. more

Quitman council OKs hotel, apartment incentives

“It was a good night at the council, a great day for Quitman,” summarized Mayor Randy Dunn upon completion of last Thursday’s city council meeting. He added that progress had been made on the issue of housing, on lodging and for investment in the city.

The council unanimously approved two incentive agreements between the Quitman Development Corporation (QDC) and real estate developer Scott Johnson. The development is targeted for a 10-acre parcel which Johnson has purchased behind (south of) Brookshires Grocery.  more

Voters in the Yantis school district are being asked to approve a proposition Oct. 4 that will allow the district to continue business as normal as a state “recapture” district. more

Following words of wisdom from their principal, Mike Sorenson, and their top two graduates, Sunni Ruffin and Jack Heard, the Mineola High School Class of 2022 added 112 names to the list of Yellowjacket alumni in a ceremony Friday at the high school gym, with the basketball scoreboard clock frozen at 20:22. more
